Drayton Manor in the Midlands gets the go ahead

Postby Emily-O on Tue Jun 23, 2009 12:45 pm

Is anything other then the catering industry moving at the moment? When I read the news the only sectors I hear that are expanding seem to revolve around the catering and hospitality sector. After a 12 year battle Drayton Manor finally has planning permission to build a hotel that will offer food, accommodation and business facilities. John Pass Associates have been the architects appointed and building may commence spring next year! They are wasting no time! I obviously took the wrong turn in life when going down the HR route.

Hearing that the west midlands has the highest unemployment number (no surprise after LDV) this is great news! 55 full time jobs and 30 part time midlands jobs will be created – with plenty more when you consider the construction side of things!

I think people this year have opted for holidays in the UK. I guess this is very money friendly – no expensive flights etc. Although the weather is looking good at the moment I am not sure the tan will compare with those who went abroad haha. When families start going abroad again do you think all these new hotels will start to suffer?

i've been thinking of getting into catering but more at cadburys as you can tell from my name i love them dearly :) and i live near bournville so like to keep things local.

do you really think the catering industry is moving?

i'm such a foodie and think there is a massive veggie market out there not just from vegans/veggies but lots of my meat eating friends like it because its not so heavy on the stomach :)

With regard to your comments about the hotel it is good news. Lots of jobs for people is always good. I think if hotels provide good service and there are lots of things to do around the area people will always visit especially if they dont rip people off. More money needs to come to us for investment in tourism and this would help too.

I think the catering industry isn't doing too badly. More people are having their holidays in the UK this year compared to abroad. A good point about holidays is that it is a great excuse to eat out. If you stay in a hotel or B&B you have no cooking facilities so end up popping to the chippy or a nice restaurant. Did you know that there are only a few veg only restaurants in the midlands? Do you think it could be a good market for caterers? Or aren't there enough vegetarians to keep it going?

If my parter and I are going to have a day out I make sure we at least eat out if nothing else. It is such a treat not having to cook!
