I think this must be one of the most shocking reports I have seen for a long time. I have recently moved to university and have been searching for part time jobs and seeing what graduate jobs are out there for the future. During my search I came across an article that claimed that youngsters in the North East and Midlands have been left feeling suicidal due to the lack of work going.

I know that North east and Midlands jobs are at an all time low but I never knew it could lead youngsters to suicidal thoughts! One charity has compiled all their figures and it has shown that 13% of the unemployed population have had suicidal thoughts. Apparently many individuals have been left feeling like there is no other alternative.
In ways I think this is quite an extreme view. Surely this recession isn’t going to last forever? And surely it is a bit dramatic to feel like there is no other option? I can understand that long term unemployment will give some people an element of depression – but suicide seems a bit too far.
I was interested to read that the majority of suicidal thoughts came from youngsters. They must be worried for their future but at the moment in time they have no real financial commitments... I would have thought that adults with mortgages to pay and families to feed would lead to a lot more stress and depression?
What do you guys think? Are youngsters being melodramatic?
