Hospitals should be hygienic

Postby Wendy on Thu Oct 22, 2009 11:36 am

Boy was I stunned to read an article the other day about the extremely unhygienic conditions found at Black Country Hospital during an inspection.
I understand that it is hard to keep up appearances these days with the recession being as bad as it is and that not all can afford the additional people to perform the cleaning duties, but this just sounded like plain laziness and negligence from the staff working there.

I think in general we just take for granted that an hospital is nice and hygienic , but we don’t really know what happens behind the scenes.
I would not like to go to a hospital where the mattresses they want me to sleep on are still soiled or there is blood and fesses stains on the walls. Who know what you might pick up there while you are in the hospital to recover from whatever. You might leave there worse of than what you went in with in the first place.
I just find it truly disgusting . Jobs in Midlands are already so scares and to have a hospital look like that does that not affect the hospitals income somehow? I would surely not go there even if you paid me.

Eek this is not good news at all! Especially at a time when half the country thinks that a cold is the flu. I would like to hope that the NHS are being provided with enough money to cope with the situation. I cannot imagine how much we are spending on Tamiflu alone! Even when a hospital is suffering I think the last place job cuts should be is with the clearners, surely? Surely some of the top managers could take a pay cut that would allow cleaners to stay and the hospital to function?

Were there reports of soiled mattresses and mess all over the place then? I like your point about taking hygeine for granted, you almost expect a half sterile environment in such places. At least I do!! :D

If they stopped paying agencies vast sums of money and employed people directly then there would be a lot more staff available !
This country is an absolute shambles !
Millions of people out of work and agencies charging double for everyone to do a job.
Surely this has to be noticed soon !
My personal website and soon to be blog.
