We are seeking a member that would like to help moderate this forum. For the time being, this will primarily involve removing spam messages when they are posted and will take no more than a minute or two each time you log in. You may very often find that i have beat you to it and there is nothing for you to do, but it will help me to have a co-mod when i`m busy elsewhere. Moderation does not require any special knowledge. If you can post messages to this forum, then moderation tasks should pose no problem to you.

While i don't have the time to mod here (i already admin elsewhere and run blogs and websites as well as full time studying) i do have a tip for helping keep spammers from posting.

The forum i admin is also phpbb (spammers paradise) once you get yourself a co moderator it might be worth setting the membership to moderater/administrator approval you will get email notification when a new member joins and can then assess if they are or are not genuine. Most spammers we get are so pitifully obvious it is not too much extra work and does ensure members are free to post without seeing things most of us would rather not.

Alternativly just set it so guests can't post that on its own will save you alot of work.

not sure if that advice from a phpbb admin veteran will help or not it helped us.

Thanks for that. A week or so ago, i set the forum so that guests can`t post and that seems to have sorted the spam problem for now. If the spammers become members then i`ll certainly do as you suggest.

Unfortunately, the forum seems to have ground to a halt! I plan to start a recruiting drive soon. There`ll be leaflets about the forum at the free food fair in Lichfield on Sat 12 April, see here , so hopefully we`ll find a few more members then.
